I acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of this land, and pay my respects to Elders past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded, and that this always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
Developed in response to the Avril Lavigne replacement theory, and the celebrity replacement theory in general, my project reimagines the celebrity as a reproducible object within a digital cloning archive. The interface mimics a laboratory database, using facial recognition grids, UV texture maps, and paparazzi images to evoke a sense of procedural documentation. The project uses this archive to reflect on the Avirl Lavigne replacement theory by showing how celebrity culture is built on ‘replacement’ and ‘performance’, turning celebrities into objects.
